Does the word "pontificate" have anything to do with the pontiff?

Its late at night and I have to water the plants when I get up in the morning. Lately, I have been getting up later than I want to and feeling about half dead as well. Tonight when I got home from choir practice at church, Cindy and I watched the NCIS from last night. Cindy knows how much I like that show and we usually watch it on Tuesday or as recorded on Wednesday night. She doesn't really like it that much and I have the impression that I probably won't like it in the future. Mark Harmon's character is too dead-pan and the other characters are way too cartoonish. The problem is they don't grow. But I like the action and the crime-solving. I guess I'm just a sucker for the production team, which did Rockford Files, Magnum PI, JAG, and other shows from back in the 70's forward. But truthfully, the shows on Sleuth Channel are fine but Homocide: Life on the Streets is the best of them. And it exemplifys the grit of Baltimore.

Tonight I also watched a PBS show about Ahmet Ertegun. Cindy had never heard of him, but I knew he created Atlantic Records and was instrumental in producing guys like Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding and others. But I didn't know that he also worked with the Rolling Stones, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Buffalo Springfield, the Allman Brothers, Foreigner, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, ABBA, Bette Midler, Kid Rock and on and on and on. He is still doing it and he started in 1947. Amazing.

The beauty of this is that he just followed what he liked, music, and used his talents to make a mint in it. And it seems like, from the show, that the money was just incidental. He really just wanted to produce the music.

Choir practice was good tonight, even though my voice wasn't up to snuff. Its amazing how well you can do when you continue to do it regularly. I need to exercise and haven't started yet. I need to follow my own good advice and follow it. Physician Heal Thyself. Good Motto.

Drew Barrymore is on David Letterman tonight. I think she is pretty cute, for someone who could be my daughter, but she has some chin on her. She should never be shown in profile. I remember the time when she danced on Dave's desk and then flashed her upper torso at him for his birthday. Just the magic of television. It might also be the magic of being the granddaughter of John Barrymore. I think her parents had something to do about it, also.

Well the adult in me says it is past my bedtime (which is a real blast from the past). I wonder if I could get to sleep better if I had someone to read Uncle Remus stories to. I don't ordinarily dangle my participle, but I just felt like it tonight. I'm not being poetic tonight, so I won't correct that one. I hope that Cindy gets to see that and "tisk, tisk" for me.

I am not going to pontificate or educate tonight. I'm just turning off the electrical appliances and seeing if I can get my brain to turn off for a little while until I am called to water plants and answer those piercing questions Cindy always has for me in the early morning, when I would much rather be quiet and enjoy the silence of the morning. Okay, one pontification.

Hey Tom, this is really being posted by your wife as the filter on the server at my office will not let me create a different user account. Isn't it a hoot that a guy who likes to ease into a day quietly married a girl who gets out of bed with her engines revving ready to conquer the day's tasks right out of the gate? Isn't it more ironic that he never told her that he likes the quiet? So why do you turn on the TV?
