All is as well as can be, under the circumstances.

Spring has returned with enough showers to make it misty and humid and cloudy this morning. It may be the same in Louisville this afternoon. I hope the sun comes out. Go Leroy Jones.

[Several hours pass in which Cindy and I work in the yard, shower and drive to the airport, drink at the bar at Houlihan's, watching the pre-race commentary for the Kentucky Derby on ESPN, then pick up Kate. This is followed by a drive down State Highway 85 to Fayetteville, an imponderable wait to get a table at La Parilla, and then a nice meal which is almost ruined by a table of rednecks who yell, laugh, demand Cinco de Mayo t-shirts, request birthday celebrations, make themselves the center of the restaurant in every way, slam their chairs into us, continually make a spectacle of themselves and are quite rowdy right next to our tables. Nothing like being just next to the center of attention. I think both Kate and I are quite tired out by the day and the tiredness causes us to react negatively to all the hoopla around us. I am sure Cindy is happy with the environment as well. Finally, we drive home and I get everything and everyone out of the car and into the house, including Kate. The day finally ends after several hours of reacquaintance and settling]

Well, today we picked up Kate at the airport. She looked really good and she seems to be happy to be home again. I am glad she is home. Cindy and I were a little bit snippy towards each other but all is well now.

The Derby started off great with Hard Spun leading the pack (and I mean pack: twenty horses in all), then Street Sense caught him in the stretch and left him in the dust, two lengths ahead. So much for the glory awaiting our brother from the fields of Christian County. Perhaps he can make it up in two weeks in Baltimore. Its a shorter race with fewer horses. It could happen. Go Leroy. Show that bloodline strong. We have to bring back the glory of Hopkinsville.

Casablanca is on Channel 30 tonight. It is in my top five movies of all time. I am going to watch it. Again. I sometimes wish I lived in a time when the circumstances of life would give one the opportunity to be noble, like Humphrey Bogart as Rick in this movie. As much as he protests, he does the right thing in the end. A very good movie for something that was just pieced together as they went along.

I am tired now. I will write more tomorrow.
