Recreation

I arose today to a new awakening,
A new world springing forth around me:
The bulbs showing their buds
The birds returning from their Winter retreat
The stoney coldness of January
Behind us now
And the promise of daffodils coming;
Their signature lemon drop color showing
Through the brick-hard ground
Just a few weeks away.
It made me wish to shed off my Winter clothing,
To rush the season headlong
And run like a colt, on infirm legs, to meet the Spring
Which waits ahead of us like the golden sun.
